3 simple steps to kick that habit?

Are you in the habit of thinking what is the worst thing that could happen?

“Who doesn’t love a slice of cake? But how many of us feel guilty after enjoying that delicious mouthful?” Or worse still believe that one slice will lead us on the slippery slope downwards. Why do we often look at the worst case scenario rather than looking at what is the best thing that could happen?

Is it really a habit?

borospince_1How many of us are ‘Glass half full people’ as opposed to ‘Glass half empty people’ Over the years I have noticed how many people just love to blame their problems on their ‘bad luck’ “Why does it always happen to me?” is a phrase I have heard over and over again by people who really do not recognise that it was their choice to take that action, to eat that cake or drink that wine.

We all have fears that creep up on us and stop us in our tracks don’t we? How many times have you heard about disasters and you are thankful that you were not involved? Or to flip it how many times have you thought that could happen to me? I was only there a few days ago and sadly some of us still cannot move on from the worst case scenario thinking and spiral downwards into a ‘WHAT IF‘ situation. Again is this a habit?

So why do we do this to ourselves? Is it possible to flip your thinking and break those habits? Well here at the Inspiration Club we believe you can flip your thinking and start looking on the bright side of life and not the ‘WHAT IF’ side of life.

Why don’t you practice it for a few minutes, hours, days, months and then turn it into a real habit. Because after all you really do have the ability to control your thoughts and your outcomes. Try it and FLIP your thinking right now!

How would you feel if you really took control of your habits and worked out why you took that course of action? There is a great phrase that spans the test of time

“If you always do, what you’ve always done, then don’t be surprised if you always get what you’ve always got” It is so true isn’t it? We think by taking the same action we will get different results don’t we? Some do say it is the definition of ‘madness’  A simple example is you want to lose weight but you continue to eat all the cakes and don’t exercise, guess what you don’t lose any weight do you!

So what can you do to flip your thinking and start looking on the bright side of life and start taking action that really moves you forward? These 3 simple steps may well just be the kick up the backside you need to hear today to flip your thinking and really start breaking those bad habits that keep you small

  1. Jump up, stamp your feet and laugh out loud, this will stop your negative thought patterns in an instant and prompt you to rethink your actions.
  2. Start planning your day, week, month; with effective planning and really working on your goals to keep you focused and stop the negative thoughts and habits from taking hold again.
  3. Celebrate success, however small, if you have gone one hour by not reaching for the biscuit tin, or you have gone for a walk instead of slumping in front of the television, celebrate by congratulating yourself. There are loads of ways you can celebrate none of them have to be food or drink related, they can be as simple as taking a few minutes to appreciate the sky, whatever motivates you to really be present in the moment and interrupts your habit will move you forward.
